Carved in Indiana limestone and installed in Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton,
Indiana. A new version of an old, traditional monumental archetype.

I started with a 4200 lb block of Indiana limestone
|

In the process of carving, I reduced the weight of the stone to about 2200 lbs.
|
Details of the carving. The rabbit and flowers symbolize various family
members. The sign with the couples marriage date is carved to look like an old
weathered board roughly nailed to a branch.
|

In my studio, here the carving was nearing completion

Monument setters from J&S Services of West Chicago and D.O.H. Services of
Blue Island, Il, "planted" my tree stump tombstone in Sept. 2004
