Tree Stump Tombstone

Carved in Indiana limestone and installed in Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton, Indiana. A new version of an old, traditional monumental archetype.

I started with a block of limestone
I started with a 4200 lb block of Indiana limestone

blocking out the shape of the trees
In the process of carving, I reduced the weight of the stone to about 2200 lbs.

Details of the carving. The rabbit and flowers symbolize various family members. The sign with the couples marriage date is carved to look like an old weathered board roughly nailed to a branch.
