Stonecarving Demo in Las Vegas

The Laborers International Union (LIUNA) invited me to demonstrate the art of stone carving at their centennial convention in April, 2003

Carving on stage in at the Bally Hotel

Over 4600 people attended the convention, and I had a chance to show them to the art and craft of stone carving.

2003 marks the 100th anniversary of LIUNA and the 150th anniversary of the Journeymen Stonecutters Association of North America.

The small limestone gargoyles

I worked on these two small limestone gargoyles.

my chiselsThese are some of the chisels I brought to Las Vegas. Most of them are 70 or 80 years old, and were passed down from carver to carver. They are stamped with names of their previous owners, and represent tens of thousands of hours of creative work.
