A visit to Calvary Cemetery

Owl in a tree-stump tombstoneI love visiting cemeteries. They are museums of stonework, filled with wonderful and creative examples of this art.

My recent visit to Calvary Cemetery, the oldest Catholic cemetery in the Chicago Archdiocese, was met with an unexpected surprise. A family of deer has taken up residence in this tranquil urban location, unperturbed by the commuter train and apartments that overlook the graveyard.
