Walter S. Arnold worked at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. from 1980 to 1985, under the direction of Vincent Palumbo, a fifth-generation master carver. In addition to working on Frederick Hart's west front tympanum sculptural triptych, "The Creation", Mr. Arnold carved over ninety smaller pieces, including gargoyles, grotesques, and column capitals.
