Pick up your card
If you received a card, copy your claim number,
type or paste it here:

  1. Is it free to send and receive cards?

Yes. You don’t need to pay anything, and you can send as many cards as you want, at any time you need, to anyone in the world who has an e-mail address.

  2. My card won't open if I click on the emailed URL?

Type the pickup code you were sent in email into the Card Pickup box (at the top left of this page and on the main postcard page) and then click on the “Pick Up Your Postcard” button. Or you can copy and paste the address into your web browser's 'location' or 'go to' window and hit the enter key. Keep in mind, cards are removed from the database after 21 days.

  3. What do you do with the email addresses we enter when sending cards?

Absolutely nothing... please refer to our privacy policy if you have any questions about the usage of information on this site. We do not collect or use those addresses. We only see your e-mail address if you write directly to us or subscribe to the Gargoyle Newsletter.

  4. I got a message “no card found”? What’s up?

Cards are stored for 21 days from the send date. You can view cards for unlimited number of times during this period. Afterwards the card will be deleted.

  5. Can you cancel a postcard I had already sent?

No, we can’t. Like in traditional postal service - once you sent a letter it cannot be turned back. Please think before sending anything (not only postcards), haste is not best the manner in communication-:)

  6. I want to save a card sent to me. How?

If you want to save the card that had been sent to you - choose menu item File (top left corner of your browser), then Save As and save this file to your hard drive, naming it as mycard.html or something alike. You’ll be able to view this card always when you are connected to the Net - images and music file will be loaded automatically.

  7. Why does it say my e-mail is invalid? I know this e-mail works!

Most probably you made a typo and did not notice it. Make sure the address is correct. Correct e-mail syntax looks like: name@mailhost.dom No spaces, no commas. Multiple e-mails are not allowed.
Do not try to paste email addresses from Outlook or Messenger’s contact lists. This won’t work: name@mailhost.dom (My Friend) and name@mailhost.dom
For AOL users: remember that e-mail addresses outside AOL look like yourname25@aol.com and not just yourname25.

If your email address has a dot before the @ sign (like in your.name@isp.com) - put slash before that dot (like in your\.name@isp.com) and you will send your card ok.

  8. Do I need any special plugins? I can’t hear the music or see the java animation.

You don’t need any plugins to view a card with pictures and texts only.
You must have sound card installed to hear the music attached. If you have a sound card - most probably you have the midi plugin with your browser installed by default.
If you can't see the Java animations, here are a few basic tips:
    1. Make sure you have a java-capable browser.
    2. Make sure your java is turned on in your browser's preferences.
    3. Empty your cache. (usually you can do that under tools/internet options or edit/preferences)
    4. Reload your browser and try again.
Check your browser help file for more information on using Java.

  9. I have sent a postcard without errors, but my recipient never got it. Why?

Reasons could be numerous, but most common ones so far are:

    • Recipient’s mail server could be down. It happens with all from time to time.
    • Recipient uses e-mail account with storage limit and at the time you’ve sent a had mailbox full. It happens often on AOL, WebTV network as well as various free mail services.
    • You had mistyped address. You had typed something that looked to you (and our system) as valid address, but it wasn’t. You may have misspelled their username or domain name. We see hundreds of bounced mails to @oal.com, @ol.com, @hotamil.com, @pordigy.com, @yhaoo.com and @msn.om.
    • AOL users often have set their permissions to block mail from Internet sites outside AOL. They need to change their settings to allow the card notification to reach their mailbox. Also, if you are on AOL and have that setting, you won’t receive the notice that the card was received.

  10. Can I catch a virus as a result of using virtual postcards?

The cards are simply web pages that you view with your Internet Browser. The notification e-mails are simple plain text notes.
The postcard server network does not run on Windows. Therefore the common viruses like Melissa, KAK, Chernobyl CIH and others cannot affect our UNIX servers.
Card notification mails (plain text) and postcard pages (HTML) are produced on our servers. Those formats (*.txt and *.html) are not subjected to any computer and network viruses. Our postcard notifications do not have any file attachments.

OUR postcards are safer than your coffee-pot! Guaranteed!

However you should be extremely cautious about any mail that has attachments. If you receive mail that takes a long time to download, or if you spot an attachment that is an *.exe type file, then you better immediately shut down all running programs and run your Virus checker. *.exe files themselves are harmless, however they are the CARRIER of viruses.
Just like not every gun is loaded, not all *.exe files sent to you carry a virus. If you have friends who send you mail with attachments instead of proper postcards, then you better have a boot disk with a good virus cleaner handy. Also be very cautious of any e-mail with an attached Word .doc file, as those can contain Word Macro viruses. You can download free trial AVG virus protection software from Grisoft.

  11. How do I know the card was received?

An e-mail notice is sent to you when your recipient actually views the card you sent. All you need to do is enter your correct email address when you create the card. In accordance with our Privacy Policy, we do not keep records of card pickups or e-mail addresses, so we can't check on the status of the card for you.

  12. Is the a limit to how many cards I can send or how often I can send them?
  13. No limits! Feel free to send lots of cards to your friends and family! The cards are to be enjoyed and shared, but are not to be used to solicit customers or sell products or services.
