Laughing gargoyle Chisel the mouth
Squatting gargoyle Wisconsin Gargoyle:
One of five gargoyles for a home near Madison, Wisconsin. They are true gargoyles, extend out of the wall, with rain water draining through their mouths.

Each gargoyle weighs about 500 lbs and is 26" (66cm) long.

Shallow relief carving with foliage and mustache Mustache:
This is a shallow relief carving measuring 23" x 8". The relief is less than 3/8" (1 cm) deep.
Rust stained limestone Rust Face:
This piece of limestone came from the edge of a block, and has embedded rust staining from iron ore leaching into the ground. I carved directly into the rough face of the stone.
It measures 16" x 8".
MacDougall:
This two foot tall creature was commissioned by a woman as a birthday present for her husband. Holding a round Scottish shield carved with the MacDougall coat of arms, including the inscription "Buaidh No Bas" (Victory or Death) it commemorates their family tradition.

Kovler Gymnasium gargoyle benches:
I carved 3 limestone benches to go in the hallway of this new gym. Each has two athletic gargoyles as legs, supporting a six foot stone bench.

The first five figures are complete, the tennis player, baseball player, golfer, runner, and soccer player. The weightlifter is next.

The students approved of the bench. The bench installed and ready for action.
Installation of these benches took place in 2001 and 2002. The students watched and pronounced it "cool".
You can see more photos of these sculptures in progress on my Latest Work page.
End of the benchThe ends of the seat are carved with gothic flowers and grotesque faces.

You can see more of my carvings for this building on my Lab School Sports Panel page. I created 13 relief carvings of student athletes and a 6'6" tall shield, all installed on the exterior of the gym.
Carved in Florida Demonstrating carving at StonExpo
I did this piece during a 3-day carving demonstration at StonExpo, the annual trade show of the United States stone industry. Held in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in November, 2001, the show attracted representatives from stone companies from around the world.
